"We have been working hard to continually incorporate new programs at KPMG to assist and support new Canadians who are existing employees of the firm and those who are potential new hires," says Michael Bach, Deputy Director of Diversity at KPMG.
Launched in 2007, the Best Employers for New Canadians competition recognizes the nation's best employers for recent immigrants. Each employer is evaluated on the types of programs they offer new employees who are recent immigrants to Canada and on the work they've done to reduce employment barriers.
Some of these programs at KPMG are as follows:
- Diversity in the Workplace Program - KPMG's Web-based training for all employees is designed to help further the understanding of diversity for everyone in the firm and explain why an inclusive work environment is so important for KPMG people, clients, and the market.
- Mentoring Partnership with TRIEC - In keeping with our commitment to support the creation of a diverse workforce, KPMG supports The Mentoring Partnership program of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC), which helps skilled immigrants in Toronto get established and find appropriate work. We now have over 50 active mentors and are the 4th largest corporate partner.
- Mentoring Partnership with ERIEC - KPMG recently partnered with the newly formed Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC) to develop projects for new Canadians in their western region offices.
- CA/Professional Designation Fees - KPMG reimburses the cost of CA equivalency courses or assessments for new Canadian employees writing the CA reciprocity exam in Canada.
"We strive to develop a culture at KPMG that is both inclusive and welcoming. Awards such as these further validate that what we are doing internally for our people makes us a leader outside the organization as well," said Mario Paron, Chief Human Resources Officer at KPMG.
