2014 US M&A Outlook Survey

M&A activity has been relatively tame in 2013, but the outlook for 2014 looks solid, says a new survey by KPMG in the US and Mergers & Acquisitions Magazine. Executives expect deal making to pick up and seek growth opportunities through acquisitions in 2014, although there will be challenges.

This publication analyzes the survey findings based on the responses of more than 1,000 M&A professionals at US corporations, Private Equity firms, and investment funds, and provides insights into the expected M&A scenario for 2014.

63 percent of respondents anticipate that their US companies or clients will initiate at least one acquisition in 2014, while 36 percent expect that their companies or clients will complete a divestiture in 2014.

Despite the general optimism, respondents admitted that there are numerous challenges and expressed caution about the unknown. As the M&A market improves, acquirers face due diligence challenges in assessing targets’ volatile revenue streams, quality of earnings, and quality of assets.
