Finance announced on July 24, 2013 that the second Protocol to the tax treaty between Canada and Austria will enter into force on October 1, 2013. The Protocol amends Article 26 of the treaty to reflect the standard developed by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for the exchange of tax information.

The Protocol takes effect for taxation years beginning on or after January 1 of the calendar year following the year of its entry into force. Therefore, because the Protocol enters into force on October 1, 2013, its amendments will affect taxation years beginning on or after January 1, 2014.
