Important Announcements by CRA and Finance

Senior officials from the Department of Finance and the CRA made some important announcements on a broad range of topics at the Canadian Tax Foundation’s 2011 Annual Conference in Montreal earlier this week.

KPMG tax partners attended the conference and provide a summary of the most relevant tax issues discussed, including the CRA’s new administrative policy on the tax treatment of joint ventures and the interpretation of the Canada-U.S. tax treaty’s permanent establishment rules.

Finance commented on the status of outstanding tax amendments and provided a detailed briefing on the consultations related to the August 19, 2011 foreign affiliate amendments, including possible tweaks Finance may consider making to these rules.
