CFPA is a non-profit organisation established in 1989 to help address poverty issues in China. The CFPA's mission is to help people and communities in poor areas improve their production, living and health conditions, shake off poverty, and realise sustainable development. In 2002, the CFPA formed the New Great Wall project, enabling impoverished students to complete their university studies. After the Sichuan earthquake, the CFPA played a substantial role in providing immediate relief to the victims and is closely involved in long-term recovery efforts. |
KPMG China has been supporting the New Great Wall since 2005. Up to now we have sponsored 540 underprivileged university students from 44 universities in 20 cities across China. In addition to the firm's financial support, staff from KPMG China offices also contribute their time and share their experience with the students through correspondence, mentorship and joint community projects. In 2011, representatives of the graduates paid visits to our Shanghai offices. The students had an "unforgettable experience" talking to our partners, staff, and other NGW students.
In the aftermath of the Sichuan earthquake, KPMG China donated RMB 4 million to the CFPA for immediate relief. The CFPA used half of this donation to purchase emergency items and equipment in order to help affected farmers in Mao county harvest Sichuan pepper corn. The remaining RMB 2 million was spent on building 156 temporary housing in Wolong.
