KPMG names John Harrison to new role of Deputy Chairman - Role includes helping drive global agenda

KPMG, the global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services, today announced that John B. Harrison, 52, chairman of KPMG's Asia Pacific region has been named to the newly created position of deputy chairman, KPMG International, according to an announcement by Timothy P. Flynn, chairman, KPMG International.

Harrison's appointment is effective immediately. Michael P. Wareing remains chief executive officer, KPMG International.

"John Harrison brings a wide scope of international experience to this new role. He will work closely with me in supporting the execution of my global responsibilities, and in helping to drive the KPMG global agenda - including further integration of KPMG globally," said Flynn.

In addition to Harrison's role as chairman of KPMG's Asia Pacific region, he also serves as co-chairman of the KPMG China and Hong Kong SAR firm with Carlson Tong, 53. Harrison will continue to hold both positions through March 2009, when his terms expire and he will be succeeded by Tong, both as chairman of the Asia Pacific region and as chairman of KPMG China and Hong Kong.

Harrison joined KPMG London in 1977, after obtaining a B.Sc. Mathematics from Durham University. He transferred to KPMG Hong Kong in 1983 and became a partner in 1987. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He has been involved in all areas of the banking, finance and aviation industries for many years. He has considerable experience in financial statement audit, corporate governance and financial risk management. Harrison also has extensive knowledge of banking, finance and airline accounting issues, as well as strategic issues in these industries.

 

Harrison is a member of the Board of Inland Revenue of The Government of the Hong Kong SAR, president of the Hong Kong Cricket Club, and a council member of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
