KPMG expands presence into Nanjing, its 12th office in China

Nanjing, 19 June 2008

KPMG has reached another important milestone by establishing its 12th office in China in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu Province. The new office, KPMG Advisory (China) Limited Nanjing Branch, will commence operations with approximately 35 professionals to provide a wide range of tax, financial advisory and business advisory services.

Major officials from the municipal and the district government of Nanjing were invited as our distinguished guests at the opening ceremony on 19 June, 2008.

KPMG is a global network of professional services firms providing audit, tax and advisory services, with an industry focus. KPMG operates in 145 countries and has more than 123,000 professionals working in member firms around the world. The aim of KPMG member firms is to turn knowledge into value for the benefit of their clients, people and the capital markets.

"KPMG is truly committed to the China market as evidenced by the immense resources we have put in to develop our service network. Nanjing will be our 12th office in China following the office opening in Fuzhou and Shenyang last year," said John Harrison, Chairman, KPMG China. "Our physical presence will enable us to better serve our clients in Nanjing, an important economic and business centre in China. The new office will also contribute to our better service coverage in Eastern and Western China, where we already have presence in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Chengdu."

Carlson Tong, Chairman, KPMG China highlighted that building up the service network is only part of the firm's growing strategy in China. "We are also recruiting the best talent to support our unparalleled growth in this market. The number of our people has doubled over the past three years, making us one of the biggest professional services firms in China. Our plan is to grow our workforce to over 10,000 people by 2010," Mr. Tong said.

Nanjing is definitely a city of strategic importance to China, having served as the capital of China for six dynasties in history. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Nanjing's GDP in 2007 reached RMB 327.5 billion.

"We wish to be part of the growth of Nanjing, which enjoys the geographical advantage of being in the Yangtze River Delta economic zone," explained Louie Choi, Senior Partner, Eastern and Western China region, KPMG China. "Many local companies have made their headquarters in the city, which is well known for its modern transportation network. We hope to assist local companies with their expansion plans, not just within China but in other overseas markets. Similarly, we will also provide support to foreign companies seeking to build their foothold in Nanjing," Mr. Choi noted.

Jeffrey Wong, Partner, Financial Advisory Services, KPMG in Nanjing, also hailed the great opportunities that Nanjing has to offer. "Nanjing is one of the major investment locations for foreign companies in China and there is an average of two new foreign firms established in the city every day," said Mr. Wong. "The municipal government has offered preferential policies for new enterprises and is committed to attracting high quality talent to work in Nanjing."

William Gong, Senior Partner, KPMG in Nanjing, acknowledged the importance of having the support of the local government. "Our successful office opening would not have been possible without the assistance from the Nanjing Municipal Government. In turn, KPMG will make every effort possible to contribute to the social and economic growth of the city."

"Nanjing is a city of growth with ample business opportunities. Together, KPMG and Nanjing will go from strength to strength. Our future plan is to further expand our service team to support our growth in the Jiangsu Province. To help nurture talent in the city, KPMG will recruit staff from local universities and will provide them with comprehensive training and development opportunities," Mr. Gong added.
