Daniel Zuberbühler, long-standing CEO of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission (SFBC) and, since 2009, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), will join KPMG Switzerland on 1 January 2012. As Senior Financial Consultant, he will provide valuable assistance to the Financial Services section by supporting clients with regard to complex regulatory issues. Financial Services comprises the auditing and advising of banks, insurers, capital investments and fund companies, as well as other financial intermediaries. Regulatory developments both in Switzerland and on the international stage pose a particular challenge in this area.
Daniel Zuberbühler’s track record and his national and international expertise in banking regulation matters are unparalleled. Following his studies in law at the University of Berne and in business at the City of London Polytechnic, he qualified as a Berne attorney (lawyer) and joined the SFBC in 1976, where he held the post of CEO between 1996 and 2008. Since 2009, following its move from the SFBC to FINMA, Daniel Zuberbühler has been jointly responsible for the strategic alignment and development of financial market supervision in his capacity as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors. In addition to this role, however, he also carried out a number of different international activities. For instance, he was a member of the Technical Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) until the end of September 2011, and sat on the Financial Stability Board’s Standing Committee on Supervisory and Regulatory Cooperation until mid-2011. From 1996 to the end of 2010, Daniel Zuberbühler was a member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and was instrumental in developing the Basel II and III regulations.
