Global M&A in Consumer Markets: Pursuing growth in an uncertain world 

Consumer markets companies and investors interested in pursuing mergers and acquisitions (M&A) continue to face a largely uncertain environment. This report, based on a series of interviews with private equity executives and KPMG M&A professionals in 23 countries a.o. also Switzerland, provides insight on how economic and industry trends are expected to affect M&A in the consumer sector over the next 12-18 months.

Some key findings in the report are relevant for Switzerland, such as:


  • Along with failing business confidence, companies are also concerned about continued weakness in consumer confidence (see page 7)


  • n markets that have experienced strong currency growth, comparatively lower valuations outside their home markets allow them to pursue acquisitions on more favorable terms (see page 10)


  • Consolidation in food production and distribution sectors are driving M&A activity (see page 19)


  • Compared to the global markets, the Swiss economy has remained strong. The only negative effects have been due to currency developments (see page 58f)
