Make a Difference Day - Making a positive impact in our local communities by volunteering

Make a Difference Day (MADD) was organized for the first time by KPMG in Belgium in 2010, as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. This initiative allowed KPMG in Belgium people to volunteer for projects designed to help local organizations, geographically dispersed among the regional KPMG offices. This corresponds to the mission of the MADD initiative, which is to volunteer your time and skills to benefit less privileged communities.

The 2010 edition was an outstanding success. Therefore, we decided to increase the number of activities for this year’s MADD from 12 to 15 in order to satisfy the expected growth in the number of participants. Our employees were very happy to be a part of this exciting experience again this year.

The 15 MADD projects focused on four domains of CSR activity: environment, social exclusion, health, and education. The projects covered three types of activity:

  1. Renovation, painting and decoration

  2. Social support

  3. Protection of the environment.

Below is a list of all the participating local organizations:

  • Pegode (Antwerp – 26/04)

  • Huize Sint-Monika (Brussels – 27/04)

  • Le Tabuchet (Liège – 28/04)

  • MPI Oosterlo (Antwerp – 29/04)

  • Les Cailloux (Brussels – 02/05)

  • Chaîne de l’espoir (Brussels, 03/05)

  • De Stobbe (Antwerp – 03/05)

  • Natagora (Rixensart – 04/05)

  • Vzw Begeleidingscentrum Stappen (Ghent – 05/05)

  • Les Rênes de la vie (La Hulpe – 06/05)

  • Okkernoot (Halle – 10/05) Akindo (Lommel – 11/05)

  • Parc Parmentier (Brussels - 12/05)

  • Monnikenheide (Zoersel – 13/05)

  • Tevona (Genk – 13/05)

In total, 150 of the 850 people working at KPMG in Belgium volunteered. The various operations proved to be a great success. Both local organizations and the participating KPMG employees felt deep satisfaction after their ‘hands-on’ experience. We received lots of positive feedback, both from the participants and the local organizations. This is a great stimulus to continue this wonderful initiative in the years to come.

Make a Difference Day was a perfect opportunity to broaden our horizon. In short, a unique experience, one that benefits all parties involved.
