Global traveller, community worker, yoga practitionerPrivate Enterprise (Audit) Senior Accountant,KPMG Sydney
Sydney 'born and bred', Tanya studied Commerce at the University of New South Wales before participating in an exchange program to the US at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. "It was there," said Tanya, "I was bitten by the travel bug and I knew that I needed to have a career that would allow me to work anywhere in the world."
To attain this global career path, Tanya chose accounting and focussed on Private Enterprise because she "wanted exposure to a range of different industries and wanted exposure to more parts of business earlier on. KPMG appealed to me because of the opportunities that they offered."
Opportunities that gave Tanya the chance to spend 6 weeks in an indigenous community where she could use her professional skills to make a difference. "It was challenging but rewarding and really great to be able to do what you love and get paid to do it!", said Tanya.
Today, Tanya's client-facing role is all about providing advice that goes beyond the obvious and delivers true and lasting value for our client’s business, as Tanya says,
"I love it because I get to work on clients from a range of industries – from Not for profits to listed companies and Sport clubs.""We work in teams, and change locations and teams almost every 2 weeks so it is very dynamic. No 2 weeks are the same. You very quickly learn how a business operates and have the opportunity to demonstrate initiative and leadership."
Tanya has found that as much as you need to concentrate on your end goal, you need to be flexible in how you achieve it. "Being open to learning and receiving feedback with a positive attitude is as important as showing that you have gone beyond the average, not just in academic marks but in what you are passionate about."
At KPMG this is exactly what our culture aims to achieve every day for every one of our clients.
