Adrian Fisk on Financial Services

The financial services industry is undergoing a rapid transformation driven by regulatory change, low growth, evolving customer preferences and new technology.

When combined with the complexity of existing business models and legacy systems, it has put significant pressure on our clients to deliver positive (and for many, transformative) change for their business.

Our view is that the pace of change is showing no sign of abating and the industry is embracing the challenge.

The financial services industry is dynamic, exciting and critical to the Australian economy and every Australian. We have, arguably, one of the most advanced and robust financial system in the world. This is reflected in our global leadership; especially in areas such as the transformation of our payments system and superannuation.

We are seeing a renewed focus on the broader role of financial services in Australia and a customer centric view on products and advice. The welcomed Financial Services Inquiry into Australia's financial system and the transition of the Australian payments system to the digital economy are cases in point.

The future is bright for financial services in this country.

Combining the right ingredients

It's in this context that our clients come to KPMG. To help them anticipate change, navigate some of their most complex challenges.

This requires us to carefully listen, understand the issues, and quickly bring together the best combination of people, locally and globally, to solve the challenge – whether it's seeking confidence from the assurance we provide, support on large transformative programs, advice to help cut through the complexity of regulatory change, or providing an insight into the latest thinking and global best practice to improve their growth and productivity.

Regulatory change, for instance, is an area that must bring together diverse people including regulatory and technology specialists, program and change managers, industry experts and risk management professionals.

I'm proud to say it is part of my role to ensure that KPMG's full capability is available to our clients. By drawing on the right combination of broad and diverse skills from across the firm we can bring new thinking and ideas to help solve their most complex challenges.

It's something we’re all proud of at KPMG and it’s an enduring commitment to deliver above and beyond for our clients that continuously inspires me.
