$1,000 grant awarded to Cancel Council

Richard Hodge is a recipient of the 2013 National Chairman's Citizenship Awards in the Fundraising category for his work with the Cancer Council.

Richard helped raise funds for the Cancer Council mainly through word of mouth which encouraged donations through his online donation page. He also organised for 100 of his friends to attend the actual event, where they spent money at fundraising stalls. In total, the event raised over $140,000, and personally Richard raised $2,000.

Richard is inspired by the Cancer Council because he states "Cancer is a non-discrimminatory disease, it does not choose who to affect based on race, age or any other factor. In Australia 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer by the age of 85, so it really is a disease that will have an impact on all Australians."

$1,000 grant awarded to Telethon Adventures

Matthew Popham is a recipient of the 2013 National Chairman's Citizenship Awards in the Fundraising category for his support for Telethon Adventurers.

The Telethon Adventurers are a group of people dedicated to finding the cause, and ultimately the cure, for childhood cancer. The group undertake a number of ‘adventures’ each year, and Matthew has formed a group of six Western Australian based runners who will be participating in the 42km Ice Marathon in Antarctica next month.

Matthew helped raise funds for this marathon through a few events over the last year including quiz nights, winery tours, yoga, a band night, raffles and chocolate sales. On 19-20 October, the 6 participants ran a 24 hour relay in the freezer room to raise additional funds; they anticipate raising funds in the region of $80,000.
