30 June 2011 - KPMG partners have elected national and Asia Pacific audit head and Chair of its Victorian practice, Peter Nash, as the firm’s new Australian Chairman. Peter succeeds Michael Andrew who is to become Global Chairman of KPMG International later this year.

Based in Melbourne, Peter will be chair for a three-year term, commencing 8 August 2011. He will also assume positions on KPMG’s Global and Asia Pacific boards.

Having joined KPMG in 1982, Peter has worked for the firm in Australia, Canada and the Asia Pacific region, and led a number of major global accounts spanning the financial services and energy and natural resources sectors. "Peter is the right individual to work with CEO Geoff Wilson to drive our strategy at a local, regional and global level," said Michael Andrew. "Over the years he has consistently demonstrated outstanding client service capability and is a thought leader in ensuring audit quality and innovation."

Michael will relocate to Hong Kong to take up his new position as Global Chairman from 1 October.

"It’s a great privilege to be elected Chairman,” said Peter Nash. "Throughout my career at KPMG I have always been highly motivated by the opportunity to make a difference for our clients. I am passionate about our firm and have been fortunate to serve the partnership in a variety of leadership roles over many years. I look forward to working with Michael in his new global capacity."
