The Social Banker: The Future of Social Banking

    The Social Banker Series
With one in 10 of the world’s population on Facebook, over 120 million registered users on LinkedIn, and almost 500 million people visiting YouTube each month, the impact of social media is hard for banks to ignore.

The Social Banker Series is a 12-week initiative by KPMG International. Each week, a new article will be posted featuring unique views from retail banking leaders on the challenges and opportunities they face in adapting to social media – a constantly evolving channel. Participants include major retail banks from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Africa as well as KPMG’s Retail Banking leaders.

Week 12: The Future of Social Banking

Nobody – not even the mighty Zuckerberg himself – can predict how social networks will evolve over the next 5 years, let alone the next 50. But one thing is certain: social networking will be a game changer for banks. That being said, peering into his crystal ball, Vincent Piron from KPMG in Belgium thinks there is ample evidence to support a few likely scenarios that will radically alter the business model for banks.
