Migration Newsflash: Visa application fee increases effective 1 September 2013 

Further to our Migration Newsflash dated 2 July 2013, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship have announced additional increases to visa application charges, effective 1 September 2013.

The fee increase is a result of the release of the recent Economic Statement for the 2013-2014 financial year. In line with the Economic Statement, the Australian Government has decided to increase all visa application charges, with the exception of the Student and Electronic Travel Authority Tourist visa applications, effective 1 September 2013.


This Migration Newsflash includes details of fee increases for the Temporary Work (Skilled) subclass 457 visa, Employer Nomination Scheme subclass 186 visa and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme subclass 487 visa.


Our summary also includes details regarding the introduction of public school tuition fees in Western Australia for children of subclass 457 visa holders, announced as part of the Western Australian State Budget on Thursday 8 August 2013.


Key insights

  • The base visa application charge for a subclass 457 visa from 1 September 2013 will be $1035 (increase from $900)
  • The base visa application charge for both the subclass 186 and subclass 187 visas from 1 September 2013 will be $3520 (increase from $3060)
  • From January 2014, the WA Government will introduce a $4,000 per year public school tuition fee for children of subclass 457 visa holders.
