In addition, in a joint media release issued on 18 March 2013, the Minister for Immigration, Brendan O'Connor MP and Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Bill Shorten MP, announced that they will give further powers to the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) to monitor and enforce compliance with 457 visa conditions.

FWO staff will be able to immediately refer any suspicious activity to the DIAC investigation team for more detailed examination beyond these basic checks on pay, conditions, and jobs already being done.
