In addition, in a joint media release issued on 18 March 2013, the Minister for Immigration, Brendan O'Connor MP and Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Bill Shorten MP, announced that they will give further powers to the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) to monitor and enforce compliance with 457 visa conditions.
FWO staff will be able to immediately refer any suspicious activity to the DIAC investigation team for more detailed examination beyond these basic checks on pay, conditions, and jobs already being done.
- The new Subclass 400 – Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa clarifies that business visitors are intended to be precluded from working in Australia unless conducting a 'business visitor activity; for instance, negotiating and entering into contracts'.
- The Subclass 601 – Electronic Travel Authority visa will allow entry to Australia for up to three months at a time as a tourist or for business purposes.
- The Subclass 600 – Visitor visa is for people who want to travel to Australia as tourists, for business or to visit family.
