Migration Newsflash: Visa fee increases effective 1 January 2013 

The Australian Government's release of the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook in October 2012 included an announcement that there will be an increase in some visa application charges. Specifically, the government has targeted many of the highly used visa categories for a substantial increase based on a user-pays system in line with earlier announcements around flagged changes to the visa pricing system.

Further to KPMG’s Migration Newsflash dated 25 October 2012, we can now advise the increases to visa application charges effective 1 January 2013.

 

Key insights

  • The 457 temporary skilled worker visa application charge will increase from $350 to $455.
  • Skilled graduate visas for those who have completed two years study in Australia will see an increase in the application charge from $315 to $1,250 for the highly valued post-study work rights visa.
  • The Working Holiday Maker visa application charge will increase from $280 to $365.
