Migration Newsflash: Credit card surcharge for visa application payments

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has announced they will introduce a surcharge on all credit card payments made for visa applications. This is scheduled to take effect from 22 March 2014.

Surcharge rates will vary dependent on the card type, and it is understood DIBP is planning to introduce three different rates for the following:

  • Visa/Mastercard
  • American Express/JCB and
  • Diners.

DIBP has not announced the rates or any other information in relation to the surcharge at this stage, however this would be in line with the Reserve Bank of Australia's surcharging standards.

As soon as DIBP release further details, we will provide further guidance. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding your immigration program, please contact your local KPMG Immigration professional.
