Students were given two days to learn and apply quantitative and qualitative analysis on a real live business case and then present it as a team of consultants to the judges.
After an incisive question and answer based selection round two teams made it through to the finals, from which Team Legacy from the University of Wollongong was chosen by the judges to be the winners. The winners will go on to participate in the KPMG International Case Competition finals in Hong Kong.
H.E. Hamad Buamim Director General Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry who was the Chief Guest at the prize winning ceremony said “I congratulate the winners as they have done very well; but after winning this competition they now have a big responsibility in front of them. They will represent the United Arab Emirates in quite an important competition overseas which is a great honor and responsibility. We will all cheer & pray for them, that they do well at the International Case Competition and make us proud.”
Mr. Vijay Malhotra Chairman and CEO – KPMG UAE and Oman said that “over the last two days, these students have worked very hard analyzing challenging case studies developed by Harvard Business School and then presenting their ideas to a panel of tough independent judges. So it gives me that much more pleasure to congratulate the winning team that will go to Hong Kong to participate in KPMG’s International Case Competition in April.” While addressing the rest of the competing teams he said that “as with every competition, there can be only one winner but it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose. What counts is the effort you have made, and what you have learnt from this experience.”
Vijay also said that the case competition has received such immense support from the government and the universities that he looks forward to making this competition an annual event and sending a team to represent UAE in the International Case Competition every year.
Reyana Menzel, Head of HR KPMG UAE said “this initiative was aimed at building the talent pipeline for the firm and was designed to give the participating university graduates an opportunity to experience the mentoring culture that exists in KPMG locally and globally.”
The winners will travel to Hong Kong and compete in the four day finals of the International Case Competition in April. The team from UAE will have a very tough challenge in front of them as they will be competing against 25 teams representing different KPMG markets.
Last year the team from United States of America bested the other competing teams to clinch the first place.
